Bournemouth Lower Gardens
1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd August 2012
Candlelight Nights, the magical experience illuminating Bournemouth gardens for four summer evenings, is delighted to announce new sponsorship deals and support for the hugely popular event, that returns across four consecutive Wednesday nights in August, beginning on the 1st.
The 100 year old Candlelight Nights, which attracts up to 10,000 visitors each evening to Bournemouth Lower Gardens, making it Bournemouth’s second largest event after the Air Festival, has confirmed sponsorship deals from Bournemouth Airport for ‘The Music Zone’, Save Energy Group for ‘The Kids Zone’, Splashdown Waterparks for ‘The Fire Zone’ and will also be receiving generous support from The Trouville Hotel and S&D Leisure.
Organised by Strawberry Lantern Events, Candlelight Nights is also thrilled to confirm ‘The Heritage Zone’, which is brand new for 2012 and will include theatrical performances from poet Steve Biddle and artist Hazel Evans plus a showcase of the event’s 100 year history inspired by local historian John Walker. The Zone has been sponsored by Yellow Buses who are also encouraging visitors to travel by bus to reduce traffic and ease parking.
Each of the four nights will maintain the same candle lighting traditions, adding a modern twist of music, entertainment and live acts, with the Mayor of Bournemouth opening the event, which is popular with both tourists and local residents, on August 1st.
Each night will kick-off at 6pm where visitors can enjoy the various Zones providing everything from music, workshops and fire shows to street performers and children’s entertainers. Then the public can light thousands of candles displayed in the wooden frames around the Lower Gardens, using free tapers given out at various distribution points from 8pm.
Co-founder and organiser of Candlelight Nights, Suzy Wheeler comments, “This year is set to be bigger and better than ever. Working on behalf of Bournemouth Tourism, we are delighted to develop such an important part of the town’s history. Strawberry Lantern Events is managed by White Lantern Film, White Circle Productions and Strawberry Fields RePresents who are three local companies aiming to develop tourism and creative business acumen for Bournemouth.
