Rock & Roll Is Here To Stay – Candlelight Nights BREAKS A RECORD!!!

Over 12,000 people enjoyed yet another magical event in the seaside town thanks to Bournemouth Tourism and Strawberry Lantern Events…..a record in attendance for the traditional event!

Last night saw the third of the Candlelight Nights and Bournemouth Lower Gardens was packed with happy families and party folk having a fantastic evening.

The Kids Zone sponsored by Splashdown Water Parks had its busiest week with Dr Balloonman entertaining hundreds of children and Poppies Art Workshops making badges and all sorts for the little ones.

Over in The Fire Zone Simon ‘Fire’ Chainey yet again put on wow-factor shows for huge crowds with guest appearances from the Crystal Wizard and Carol Childs.

As the clock struck 8.30pm thousands of tapers were distributed to the public and the Lower Gardens magically crept into dusk with the candles being lit.  Each frame formed a picture and all ages participated in the one-hundred-year-old tradition.

The other side of the Gardens had a party atmosphere as up and coming acoustic sensation Adam Dupree performed live from the band stand in The Music Zone.  The creme da la creme of the whole year was the headline act…………rock and rollers The Original Rod Stewart Band!!!!

Song after song of Rod Stewart classics performed by the writers and musicians that have worked with Rod and great friends of the star.

Thousands and thousands of people stretched out on the grass and pathways and danced away to such a fabulous music experience.  Many being taken back to their younger years!!!

The Orginial Rod Stewart Band consists of:
Jim Cregan (guitar) – toured the circuit in 70′s America with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, good buddies with Rod Stewart.
Gary Grainger (guitar) – quoted as PeteTownsend’s favourite guitarist
Pat Davey (bass) – performed around the globe including Japan with the Tom Robinson Band and recorded ’2468 Motorway’
Sam Tanner (keys) – WOWs audiences of thousands and performed with the greats of all generations
Harry James (drums) – mind-blowing talent rock and rolling on stages around the world
Jimmy Stapley (lead vocals) – signed to Kiefer Sutherland’s record company, Ironworks Music and all ready jammed with Ronnie Wood and only 24!

The band held a press conference in The Trouville Hotel that afternoon and stories were told of the rock and roll days that inspire us now.   The public and local music scene then carried on the party back at the hotel where the bar kept busy until the early hours.

So many fantastic comments have been said such as Candlelight Nights is exactly what Bournemouth is about and well done to Bournemouth Tourism for working with Strawberry Lantern Events for making it happen.

Congratulations to everyone involved……….let’s get ready for this year’s last evening on Wednesday 24th August 6pm til 10pm.
